Speaker problems!

Alright so I'm buying this amp from a guy (insurance check came in this week! just waiting for it to clear the bank)

It's a 1970 Fender Super Reverb...amazing amp..a couple of small issues...the side of the amp has a crack in it but is solid...that's not a big problem

big problem is that one of the original cts alnico speakers doesn't work! it's not a loose lead or anything like that..I checked all the obvious..any idea what could cause the speaker to fail, is it repairable, and how much would it cost?

Re: Speaker problems!

Weber is not doing recones on anything other than Weber products these days...those CTS alnicos are pretty delicate (given derating over time) and with original cones they blow pretty easily. I once blew 6 out of 8 on a gig where I used two BF Supers...

Re: Speaker problems!

man, don't tell me stuff like that..it's making me very worried about these speakers! I'd hate to have to have them all reconed at one time...that would suck majorly...maybe I should just buy new replacement speakers and stick these away in storage somewhere for the sake of returning the amp to stock?
