Speaker Recommendations

I have been thinking about trying to sell my amp, which is a Traynor YCV80 2x12", and buy another (or even trade up for another amp). The only reason I'm not really enjoying this one is because it doesn't sound as warm and saturated as I would like it to sound. It has Celestion 70/80's in it right now, but I was thinking about changing them. The only real suggestions I'm looking for is:

What speakers would you guys recommend for a warm, saturated sound that wouldn't sound too heavy metal-y?

Also, would I be better off looking for another amp instead of replacing the speakers?

I play an Agile AL-3000 and a Fender Nashville Tele into a Visual Sound Jekyll & Hyde -> Boss DS-1 (with distortion set all the way down) -> EH Deluxe Memory Man -> AMP, just to give you an idea of whats going into it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Speaker Recommendations

eminence wizards

g12h30's basically but 75 watts instead of 30, and yeah you'll need the extra power handling

Re: Speaker Recommendations

OK gotcha. I'm going to look more into these as I am only really familiar with Celestion speakers. I haven't really done my research on Eminence.

Re: Speaker Recommendations

Celestion 70/80's are very bright speakers. I've had those in a Randall 2x12 Combo and changed them out for 2 Vintage 30's. Much better! I prefer Vin. 30's over G12t75 too.

Re: Speaker Recommendations

yes wizards are the warmer of the 2

and like i said they're basically just higher wattage celestion g12h30's, so if you know celestions, just picture one of those, but 75 watts instead of 30

Hmm sounds cool. I'm going to seriousley think about putting a Wizard in my Marshall DSL401.

I had that same amp about a year ago and those 70/80's are bright. You might want to keep one in and get a warmer one like an Eminence Texas Heat to balance it out. (check out the descriptions at www.eminence.com) That amp is American voiced so Patriots might be better suited.

ALSO, have you swapped out the tubes? The stock Sovtek's leave a little to be desired and a set of JJ's will warm it up some. www.eurotubes.com has an order page for tube sets for Traynor amps you can order. Bob at eurotubes is a good dude - call him up and he'll answer all your questions!
