Speaker swap 67 princeton reverb

Pulled this old warhorse out of my Princeton today and replaced with a Ragin Cajun.





The new speaker sounds AMAZING so far. Needs breakin but wow what a difference.

Can any speaker experts tell whether this old speaker has been repaired? You can see where someone marked it 9-16-69 MK up at the top. The amp is a 67 so I am wondering if the old speaker was a replacement from 69 or whether it was repaired by a tech in 69 and that was his mark.

May have answered my own question - the date code 465-505 suggests this speaker was made by Oxford early in '65. So somebody had their hands on it in 69, maybe to repair it, and I am guessing it is either an original for the amp, or an older speaker which had been swapped in for the original speaker at a later date.

With a few exceptions (like the CTS in a Super Rev) I always thought that Most Of Fenders stock speakers were mediocre...especially at "higher volumes". Certainly a good idea to hold onto it, but I doubt anybody will ever want to recone it.....but you never know...no right or wrong where speaker tone is concerned. It looks to be in very good shape.

How much louder is the Eninence?

I have not been able to open it up completely yet, but already I can tell much more clarity, less squoosh when running at about 4 on the volume and the low end is not as flubby. It has much clearer high end as well. Yet it seems to retain the character of the amp.

I think Eminence makes a good speaker. I have a Cannibis Rex in a currently closed convertible cab. Love the thing. If the Rajin' Cajun is anything like it, it should sound fantastic.
