Speaker wires in 4x12 Is there a reason they are cheap/ thin?

I was wondering why the speaker wiring inside of both Mesa and Marshall cabs are so thin? They are around 20 or 24 guage wire. I know car audio gurus say that the thicker the better ( 12 guage/ 16 guage). Does this hold true for guitar cabs? 4x 12 cabs in particular? Has anyone re-wired their cab with thicker guage wire or with car audio wire? What were your observations? Thanks

Why? I guess because the companies can get away with it. I've heard of plenty of players rewiring with thicker cable.

It must just be to save money, because companies like Marshall and Mesa probably produce so many cabs that expensive wire would cost a lot. The difference in sound is pretty minute......comes down to my post "You get what you pay for" Pay more, get better quality.

I just re-wired a buddies Marshall stereo cab and it was about 25% louder and also had more depth, girth and over accentuated the Marshalls g12t75 speakers annoying high end as well. Is car audio wire, specifically Monster 12 guage subwoofer cable at radio shack, good to use or is 12 guage too thick? I like the result in my Mesa but my friend insists that the new cable only made it louder, not better. Any thoughts?

if it sounds good at first, it sounds good. I've been trying to teach myself some control with mods. If it aint broke dont fix it...you might bring out something nasty like harsh treble frequencies that should have been muffled out by the thinner wire.

If speaker companies designed and tested their speakers with that cheapo wire, then the speaker would likely sound best with that same cheapo wire because the company had the speaker voiced to sound good with it.(kinda redundant but you know what i mean)

I see your point but on the other hand if Edison thought candles werent broke he would never had to fix them with a lightbulb. LOL I did wonder about the high frequency thing but then I looked at the backplate of the cab and it was particle board along with the chinsey way the brace was installed led me to rethink the fact that maybe Marshalls post 1980s cabs were just massed produced crap unlike the Bogner or Diezel cabs? Heck even my Mesa cab is built better than the 3 Marshalls I took apart the other night.
