Speakers! Damn speakers!

I've just went through 100's of threads on all the forums looking for speakers to put in my new 4X12. My head is spinning. The cab I have right now has 2 V30's and 2 G12H-30's(Ann.) and I'm looking for another flavour. .
I need suggestions fast. I'm a classic rock guy that likes crunchy mids. Don't get me wrong, this set up is good for mids also but its just missing something. I like the sound of Schenker,Matthias Jabs,Dimartini,Lynch,Eddie and the boys.
Help me pleaasssseeeee........

Those guys used low wattage speakers. Greenbacks or the G12H-30's would work well. Get 4 of those or 2 and 2 greenbacks.

Re: Speakers! Damn speakers!

Since I have been kinda pleased with it I will suggest that you swap the 2 V30s for G12-65's - has the crunchy mids you speak of

You can find old ones, get the Heritage versions OR Weber makes an inexpensive RI.

I hate to post without helping someone, but I'm in the same boat. I have no clue which speakers to get for my '72 Fender Twin Reverb. I wish you luck!

Have you already tryed Greenbacks? They have more "crunch" than V30's or G12H30's. The 80's era rock was actually a lot of left over GB's and the G12-65 that superceded the GB. The G12-65 has about the same EQ as a GB, but with a later breakup.

Re: Speakers! Damn speakers!

Definately Greenbacks or G12-65's. I've got a 2xV30 cab, and I'm not all that happy with the sound.

Re: Speakers! Damn speakers!

Classic rock with crunchy mids? Greenbacks all the way, my favorite speaker for that classic Marshall crunch. :fing2:

Re: Speakers! Damn speakers!

The cab is also quite important, my slanted 4x12 cab is less big sounding, also a great deal more muffled, my straight 4x12 cab with V-30's is huge and defently totally oldschool rock!
My amps sounds insane through that cab, dunny enough I am not fond of V-30's, but in this cab...forget it, it is everything I like in a British flavour!

Re: Speakers! Damn speakers!

are those old english made g12h's? if so and youre getting rid of them, lemme know

Re: Speakers! Damn speakers!

You have the best setup going. After playing through a bunch of speakers over the years, I've loaded my 4x12's with V30's & G12H30's in x-patterns. This tone can't be beat.
