Speakers don't fit--BUMMER!

Took Celestion V12-60s out of my 59 Bassman clone--that is a 2X12 combo like a Bassbreaker--and put in G12H30s. This is an amp that you have to pull completely apart to switch speakers. Had the Gs hanging around for a few years and figured I'd try them out especially since Lew speaks highly of them in Fenders and I'm not crazy about the Vs. &@#*%!:firing: The amp won't fit! Darn speaker magnet is WAY bigger on the G12. Oh well, here we go again trying to figure out what speaker to use.

I'd love to just crack the half inch off the magnet but I know at least two or three of you would seek me out and destroy me, LOL. Good sense took over when I had that moment of insanity.

Just wanted to rant a little.

Re: Speakers don't fit--BUMMER!

Hmm that sucks... sorry to hear, even more because those G12Hs are some interesting speakers.

Re: Speakers don't fit--BUMMER!

I'm going to take that top G12H30 out and try to find an Eminence speaker that will fit. I wonder if I can mod the baffle to fit a 10 instead and have a 12 and 10 like the Gibson amps. Anyways, probably going to try to get a really American sounding speaker to go with the Brit vibe. Should be interesting. I was going to get a couple of Webers, but money's tight and I had these speakers anyway, brand new. Guess I'm gonna spend some cash anyway.

Re: Speakers don't fit--BUMMER!

I feel for you - the H in G12H30 stands for "heavy" magnet. Maybe you can stick a greenback in the top - it has the smaller 35 oz. magnet.

Re: Speakers don't fit--BUMMER!

I could probably coax a Greenback in there, and that's a SWEET speaker, but I may go with that Texas Heat, or Red Fang if I go British. I just can't wait to hear what it sounds like. Next year I'll load'er up with some great tubes and the transformation will be done.:chairfall

I had that problem with my wide body Mark IV combo - I put an EVM12L in it. I had to take the wooden spacer underneath the reverb tank out and now it's still tight, especially with EL34's in the end sockets but it works...and my tight bottom end has been restored...

Wound up getting the Cannibus Rex from Eminence. It should be here this week. I hear this speaker needs a lot of break in time, so I'll probably hold off on giving an opinion on it for awhile.

100 hours is nothing!

Hook a CD player up to the amp & leave it on repeat for a few days...

'Ya get bonus points & better tone if you blast Dr. Dre or Pantera on "11" while your on vacation & the neighbours are devout goody-two-shoes types!

Re: Speakers don't fit--BUMMER!

I actually DO have an old man that's an a$$hole on one side of me, but the neighbors on the other side are great--too bad! I like that Pantera idea, LOL.

TGWIF, I'm pairing the G12H30 with it. I am planning on doing the CD player thing. The speakers are in and working and the initial results are outstanding so far. My strats HAVE lost a bit of their stratiness, probably due to the Celestion, and the amp is overdriving on about 2 1/2 now instead of 4, but it sounds so sweet. My Plexitone which did not sound good through this amp now sounds unbelievable.
