All,
I hate to re-post, but my preferences and research have taken me to different speakers.
Anyways, I have a '72 Fender Twin Reverb, silver face. One of my speakers broke on me (they're probably very old): it had Celestion Modern Lead 12's in it. Anyways, I need speakers that are $50-$100 each, making this choice $200 max. So far I've narrowed it down to the choices in the poll. Please feel free to respond, vote, etc.
What tone I want: I play practically everything (christian music tends to "cover" a lot of genres without really being the best at any of them), and have a multieffects board that I use. I prefer a clean tone, and the only time I don't is when I want to simulate a very natural overdrive. My silverface TR has master volume and two channel volumes, so I can do this using channel volume = 10 and then master volume set for loudness, but like I said, I rarely do that: I have pedals.
I play in church, christian music, and it varies from ultra-clean to classic rock, even hard rock. However, I would like to have enough versatility to play metal if necessary (but using pedals, obviously). So I'd basically prefer my Twin sound like a Twin: the clean tone has got to sound sexy-clean.
I use Seymour Duncan pickups exclusively due to my guitars. I own one ESP with the Hot Rodded combo (agathis body wood) and a Lite Ash Strat with an Alnico II Pro Staggered set.
Things that attracted me to the above combinations: for Eminence, it was their rating on Musicians Friend, coupled with the fact that they do not sound "british", they're approximately the same output, and their attributes seem to balance each other out. I would've picked speakers that claimed to be good for "all genres" but they're out of my price range. Weber, I hear good about them, but their 25% restocking fee bothers me, but Ted Weber himself suggested the 12F150's. As for celestion, I hear good about Greenbacks, and those are the top three rated speakers in Musicians Friend.
