Re: Spec-in' out my Warmoth LP

You gonna glue in the neck?

Only thing that doesn't float my boat is the scale length and controls/layout. Sounds really nice otherwise :bigthumb: ..good pup combo I think for the ebony board and maple cap.

What color ya gonna have it done?

Re: Spec-in' out my Warmoth LP

I recommend a flat 12" radius unless you already know you like the compound thing.

Re: Spec-in' out my Warmoth LP

Have fun with that wiring scheme. That's mighty complicated (perhaps too complicated IMO... but I'm more a simpleton when it comes to control configurations). It'll be versatile, that's for sure.

Sounds like a burst to black top with a black back unless you are doing some kind of natural masked binding. Could be cool. Unlike Jeff, the scale length doesn't bother me (aside from the fact that it could get a little neck heavy), but the control layout is unorthodox for an LP. It'll be intersting to see how it turns out.

Doubtful. I've already got finish on it, so I don't think glueing is an option anymore.

I went with the scale length because I find the Gibson scale to feel too sloppy. I prefer nice tight strings. I use 11's on my Strats. I also dislike the traditional LP control layout.

I am "finishing" the finish right now ... I'll post pics when it's done ;)

It's already in my hands. I have played a compound board before, and it was quite pleasant.

Please don't refer to that guitar as a Les Paul. ;)

I'm not.

Re: Spec-in' out my Warmoth LP

Nice specs. I love their compound radius. That's what's on my Frankenstrat. Very comfy to play.

Interesting specs. Seems like a good marriage between a Strat and LP. I've seen a few completed ones with that control layout in their customer gallery. It's not bad looking.

Me too. After playing Strats for so long I really come to rely on that extra "breathing room." When I switch to my V my fingers feel squished. Although I do love the extra sustain and deeper tone the scale length helps contribute to.

I did that with a Superswitch. Turns out I never used those positions. Instead, I added push-pull pots that could change the bridge or neck pickup from serial to parallel.

If I had to do it over again, I'd ditch the complicated wiring, but in a Tele-3way, and keep the push-pull serial/parallel pots.

Re: Spec-in' out my Warmoth LP

The good thing about wiring is it's easy and relatively cheap to change if I don't like it. I'm not too concerned about that.

Just lyke I don't consider any of yours real Les pauls either. ;) Hell, i don't consider anything post '69 a true Gibson.

Yeah, it's a good thing that names don't necessarily determine tone.

Oh yeah, totally understand you got what ya wanted and what works for *you* ! :) just was saying it's not my personal pref :bigthumb:

TEASE!

Re: Spec-in' out my Warmoth LP

Holy crap! I've wanted to build a long-scale LP from Warmoth for quite a while. I'd go for a more conventional control arrangement, but maybe not. Yours sounds interesting.

The only two changes I would make for sure, a PGn in place of the Alnico II, and some type of wrap bridge instead of a TOM.

Oh, chekc out using an Electrosocket jack cup instead of a normal Tele setup. Very cool looking and a little more robust.

Pics and clips when you're done!!

big thumbs up to using an Electrosocket. I used one on my Warmoth VIP -- you never have to worry about the plug missing the socket and scratching the finish.

Just so ya know, I wouldn't say that this is a very accurate description of the '59 back profile. I've got one on my warmoth tele, and its almost as fat as the "fatback" that I've got on my strat. Its pretty fat, even at the nut.

Re: Spec-in' out my Warmoth LP

Not sure I agree with the chambered thing. I always felt if you're doin' up a custom paul, make it a solid 800 lb shoulder breaker. I also like dots on the fingerboard. I get lost going to the bathroom for christ's sake.

I hope there's a burst involved in the painting.
