Oh, chekc out using an Electrosocket jack cup instead of a normal Tele setup. Very cool looking and a little more robust.

I was actually pondering doing that. I think I'll go for it. Thanks for the tip.

Pics and clips when you're done!!

You betcha! Could be a while though - I am slow and picky when it comes to this sort of thing.

Not sure I agree with the chambered thing. I always felt if you're doin' up a custom paul, make it a solid 800 lb shoulder breaker. I also like dots on the fingerboard. I get lost going to the bathroom for christ's sake.

I hope there's a burst involved in the painting.

I used to think the same thing until a took a chance on a guitar with side dots only. I found that the side dots were all I needed to find my place in the event I got lost.

That's pretty close to the specs I'd use if I was building one. I reckon I'd like it, as long as I didn't get too confused with the switching. :smack:

Re: Spec-in' out my Warmoth LP

The only thing I'd do differently is wire it up like some PRS's:

bridge
outside coils in series
bridge & neck in parallel
inside coils in parallel
neck

I just don't think you'd hear much difference between your 2nd & 4th switch positions.

You can do it without flippin a magnet simply by rotating one pickup 180 degrees - see if you like it, then flip the magnet if you do.

You could always add push/pulls to put each pickup in parallel or in series with itself...

Actually, I re-did the finish on the top since then. I did away with the burst. It looks pretty neat in those photos, but in person the metallic paint bursting into the dyed top looked really, really strange. It's a shame, since the flame on the top is so nice, but what can you do? I'll do a dye job on my next Warmoth (I'm thinking Jazzmaster).

This thread contains up-to-date pics with the finish completed:

I really like the idea of a Warmoth les paul, the only thing is that all the ones that I've seen seem to have the tailpiece just a little too far away from the bridge. I'm curious to see how yours turns out when it's fully finished . . . bet it'll sound great!

For the nut I like tusq, it has tone thats better than bone if you like more detail and brightness. If going to more airy and vintage type of tones you could get a aluminum tailpiece, abr-1 instead of a nashville bridge, and some kluson deluxe tuners instead the heavier grovers. Personally I would keep the standard setup of 4 knobs for volume/tone, I like the individual settings for each pickup.
