hi, i am looking for an effects processor, but not just any normal one. i have chacked out loads of manufacturers but i dont seem to be able to find eactly what i want.

what i want in one is
  • no pre amp effects ,like distortions - only effects to go in the effects loop
  • stereo operation
  • floor unit preferably, or could use rack with midi pedal
  • built in tuner (preferable but not ness)
  • no preset effects chains, want to build own chains

any suggestions??

thanks,
Dave.

Dave...what effects Do you want...

Re: specific effects

well im looking for a multi, as much as possible apart from distortion/amp modeling and wah.

the most important though are modulations (chorus, flange, phase etc) reverbs and delays.

i would prefer a multi pedal rather than individual pedals to save patches. im looking for something quite high quality aswell, not like a zoom 505.

IMO multi-pedal type effects are garbage...if you want an "all in one" effects unit go rack...I can't even suggest one good multi-fx that is a pedal AND is good, sorry.

Re: specific effects

Check out the Lexicon MPX-1 and the TC Electronic G-Force or G-Major.

I believe all three of them let you re-order the effects within the unit....though I think the G-Major has some limitations.

Re: specific effects

Boss GT-6? wicked effects, tuner, pedal format. Just turn all the distortions off :)

Re: specific effects

Actually, you just described the old Yamaha UD stomp. It's out of production, but you might be able to find a used one.

Re: specific effects

The Peavy Delta Stomp has 16 effects (6 are actually differnt types of reverbs and delays), no tuner, no amp models or distortions, is stereo, will utilize a control pedal for volume/time changes, but can only use one effect at a time, except delay+reverb. I have one, and mess with it from time to time. Here's the Harmony Central link that shows a pic of it and has a few reviews. I know one of these were in EVH pedal board, but not sure what effect he was using it for.

Re: specific effects

Man, want to build your own effects chains...

That's a tough call. I am not aware of one that allows you to set the order of the effects...

I will watch this thread for an answer though.

I am curious, why is it that important to you to set your own effects chain? Particularly when you say you don't want/need pre-amp-distortion-wah effects?

IMO those 3 are the only ones that really make a difference when you change the order around.

With flange, delay, reverb, the only person who can tell the difference is you.

Re: specific effects

I use a boss GT-3 as an effects pedal and it allows you to change order of effects, the current pedal out now though is the boss GT-6, its got a few more bells and whistles i geuss. However, when you use these pedals into a guitar amp, they don't sound so great. They just sound.... digital! I suggest you just buy seperate pedals.

+1 on the G-force & MPX-1
The TC Electronics units seem to have more realistic reverb effects, but the Lexicon seems to be a little warmer. The choice would be purely a matter of taste. I wish I had both in my studio.

.

the reason i want to chose my own chains is because in the majoraty of processors their are a few set chains u can edit peramiters on. you get all the effects individually then a few double chains like
chorus + reverb
chorus + delay
flange + delay

and dont get to chose your own combination of effects.

hmmmm im thinking maybe a boss me-50 and ignore the distortions, the more expensive boss pedals are a bit too expensive. the main problem with rack effects is i could just about afford the rack gear but no way afford a midi pedal.

its weird their are no good multi pedals with only effects for the effects loop (after the pre amp)

i suppose unless you spend more than £400 individual pedals are the only real option

Check out Behringer's big midi pedal. Some of my friends use it and claim it's at least as good as the more expensive brands' models.

i dont want to be sounding like an absolute pessamist and nay sayer but that pedal still costs £100 and thats a lot to be spending just to be able to change patch, the main reason i dont want rack effects.

i currently have a korg A3 (effects processor) and FCB6 (midi pedal), i find that this alters my tone too much (also has a broken input jack currently) and unfortunatly my FC6 cant be used with any other rack gear as the power input is totaly nackered and it can only be powered with the Korgs midi remote power.

i can see these options

  • get my Korg A3 fixed and settle with its tone altering properties ¬_¬
  • buy a boss me-50 (or simelar) - stick it in my effects loop and ignore the dist /OD
  • get individual stomp boxes; chorus, reverb, compresser, EQ, phase, flange
  • get a sub standard rack effects and midi pedal
