Speed knobs or Tophats?

Which do you prefer?

Speed knobs almost always.

But I recently put chicken heads on my LP and I like those even better.

Beautiful basses dude. Top hats look great on SGs and Firebirds. Maybe it's the vintage lines and flat tops.

Speed knobs, or any knob that is larger in circumference. Ergonomics 101. You get more leverage, easier to turn and be precise.

Not to sound too pretentious, but I am proficient enough at my instrument that the shape of knob doesn't effect my performance.

I pick whichever one looks coolest

Speed knobs all day for me. And I hate reflector knobs. Witch hats are pretty cool, though. They always remind me of my first Fender amp-an early 80’s Rivera-era Champ II.

The bigger it is, the faster and more exact it will be.

I like them both on their prospective body style. I don't like the smaller round knobs on any shred stick or tele.

I also like the fact that there are so many cool speed knobs to choose from out there. Not too many choices for top hats.

I'm in the "whatever looks good" camp. For me that's a speed knob more often that a top hat.

While I like the look of top hats, I have found that I always prefer to use speed knobs so that's what goes on my guitars.

Once again, you read my mind. I like to keep a Strat, looking like a Strat, but those knobs are hard to work a push-pull. Thankfully, they have push-push's.
(And S-1's.)

Agreed, I have a push/pull phase on my Strat and it is a PITA to grab quickly, I have to get my fingernail under the knob to do it on the fly.

Yeah, Strat knobs are impossible to grab and pull quickly. The S1 switch is a gamechanger, but man, it is expensive for what it is.

It's also not very robust. I wouldn't want to hit the button too hard.

Yeah, I agree. They call them "speed knobs" for a reason.
