spend fair money on an amp you dont need?

i havent played it, there are still two i can check out. they are both 1966 and in good shape, one has swapped speakers but id be pulling them anyway and putting in webers or celestions. $2800 just seems steep, if it was $2200 i would have done it already. i have been pulling out some of my neglected amps which has been fun. forgot how much i like the vox with the tone tubby

Maybe negotiate on price? Are they willing to budge if you let them keep the replaced speakers?

Get it. Worst case scenario you sell it for most of what you paid.

Let's be honest: You don't NEED guitars or amps at all. Life is about living. Food clothes, shelter, meds. After that is covered - get the amp.

That said - I have a lot of gear I do not need. I am extremely patient and may sit YEARS waiting on something I'd like. eBay/Reverb watch list and a CL morning routine with a nice cup of coffee will go far...

Negotiate the price and buy the amp. What is a couple hundred bucks if you really love and want the amp? I am sure you made enough deals over time that went your way to make up for the difference and then some. :D

i told the guy id give him $2200 but he says he can get $3k so i will let him. or not, we shall see. i want the amp but i dont know if i will ever use it. i already have a bunch of amps i dont use, so do i need another one? im just letting it sit for now.

i guess my issue is paying $2800 for an amp that will sit mostly unused

This is my thoughts as well. I personally don’t have an extra $2800 for essentially a giant paperweight. If that’s not the case for you and you really want it, then why not. Who knows, maybe it will turn into your #1 once you get it and take her for a spin.

if i really thought that would happen, id probably do it. but 40w and 2x12 is more than i need most of the time. my '66 deluxe reverb suits damn near every gig i play. which is why it would be nice to have the 40w version but its just gonna sit there

it was basically stock when i got. it had a replacement three prong and new filter caps but that was it. i swapped the stock speaker for a celestion g12h-30, then a cannabis rex, now it has a weber recone g12h-30 but ill eventually put the crex back in. i put in an on/off switch/pot on the trem so i can get it of the circuit and turn it on without the footswitch. ive changed some component values a bit over the years but it just sounds like a great deluxe reverb with a different speaker. i still have the stock speaker but its not all that great and isnt overly efficient. the g12h or crex is a huge improvement. its a little beat up lookin but it delivers where it counts.

When I suggested haggling in an earlier post you said he had an arrangement to sell them for 3k each then
So why hasn't he?
And why is he willing to let you have $200 off ?
If he has a deal to get 3k somewhere else, and he wants to fund a new guitar. Then he would have done this by now.
He is using the larger offer as a way to maintain the price. It doesn't exist.

If you made him your offer, let him rest on it. Leave your number in case he changes his mind . And let it go

he is selling cause hes in his 70s and is never going to use this heavy gear but still kinda wants to hold onto it cause he used to use it and its awesome stuff. he sold one off already but still has two. the one he sold was in damn near perfect condition but he thinks the other two sound better which is why this one sat unused. he was taking $200 off for a "friend" price but thats still to high for me, im gonna leave it at $2200 and not worry about it for a bit

I'd still ask to see if you can use it for a gig or 2. You'd know pretty quickly if it is worth that kind of money, and get a sense of what it is like hauling it to the stage.

oh hes stirring the pot and sending me things like this. again, this is a good friend of mine and he wants me to have the amp cause hed rather see it go to "family" than some stranger or collector

The wind blew and the BS flew and there was the seller...lol. He is asking less than $3K and it hasn't sold for asking but supposedly he can get $3K which is above ask? :lmao:

he got $3k for one of the three he had. he used to run two and had one as a spare. hes still got two and will keep one most likely
