Hi everybody!

I wanted to change the setup of my backup guitar.. So I grabbed an old SH3 (4-Cables) and mounted it...
But I want more...

This guitar has 3 pots: 2 volumes and a master tone..

I want to rip away the neck pickup, exchanging the toggle with a killswitch (SPST) , using the two volumes for the spin-a-split and leavin' the master tone as it is..
But.. How?

For the killswitch there's no problem at all.. Easy as breath!
But I dont know how to use the lower magnet of the SH3 for the spin-a-split (when it's on zero) and how to maintaining the master tone..

I'm not good with electronics but I can solder and followin' a diagram like a champ!

Any ideas\help?

Regards,
Marco (:newbie:)

PS: Sorry for my broken english.. :duh:

Re: Spin-a-split w/ Master tone

Thanks a lot! I only need to know how to select the magnet and how to connect the tone!

Dont worry for your english.. Not my native language too... :D

Re: Spin-a-split w/ Master tone

Ok.. In my opinion I should be halfway through this..
I should solder the negatives to the split pot, north start + bare to ground and green to hot...

Am I right?

Re: Spin-a-split w/ Master tone

Diagram spinasplit doble.jpg
as you whant the outer coil you should change the wires (red to black, black to red, and green to white white to green) in both pickups (red and green are responsible for screwed outer coils.
So to the middle of volume pots should go black and green wires from each,
to selector red
to ground white

you are welcome

if it works please like this post

I'm more confused than before.. If you can write it down with only a pickup w/ no toggle switch I'll be grateful for the rest of my life! :fest 6:

Re: Spin-a-split w/ Master tone

but you need to have some switch between a pickups??
or you whant both together ON and no switch?? really?

give me a picture of your guitar to know if im right
regards

Re: Spin-a-split w/ Master tone

with no 3 way switch hmm that will give you always both pickups.
Take black from both pickups from this diagram and connect them both to the left pot of the tone potentiometer (where the blue wire is draw).
3Way switch with all cables to the ground and to tone left pot REMOVE.
and it is done.
No 3 way switch still two spins and one tone. BUT REMEMBER NO SWITCHING BETWEEN PICKUPS

No.. I got no neck pickup! That's the point! :D

So.. how should I proceed?

Re: Spin-a-split w/ Master tone

ok got it.
Is this what you whant??
Diagram spinasplit bridge.jpg
to do the kill switch. One of the side pot of toggle switch to the hot and the back of the toggle switch to the volume (that will still be a volume). with rest of pots from 3 way switch do nothing.
or just buy a two way switch and replace this 3-way toggle

regards,
Peter

I hope the sound of this will be good enough for you (i really don like split bridge humb).

Re: Spin-a-split w/ Master tone

Yeah! That's what I needed! Thanks a lot!

For the killswitch I'm going like this (first method).. It's more easy to use than the toggle one!

Re: Spin-a-split w/ Master tone

yea nice method.
have you ever play with kill swich????
this is really nice :)
try to do the button that will be instatnly OFF (due the spring inside).
once you push it ON - you have swiched OFF the guitar (kill switch).
this will give you a nice opportunities ;)
look and decide is that what you whant

Re: Spin-a-split w/ Master tone

Yeah! I put a killswitch on almost every guitar that I ever had.. I'm a big Morello fan! :D

Re: Spin-a-split w/ Master tone

okey,
I have a question to you.
DO you often use volume to turn something down??
cause you will have kill switch, spin-a-spilt, and i will recomend to do so called spin-a-choose out of volume.
You will have no need to rib out of the neck pickup.
I will put the neck in parallel and bridge like it is with spin-a-split.
and with "volume" (that will not be a volume anymore) you will have a chance to choose the pickups continuously. so for example 40% neck 60% brigde, 50-50, 30-70, it is nice thing
how do you think?

Re: Spin-a-split w/ Master tone

I should try this trick on another guitar.. this one is my "punk" guitar.. so, the neck p.u. is completely useless (and by the way.. it sucks)...

Re: Spin-a-split w/ Master tone

hehhehe,
have you heard neck in parallel - (have somthing from single coil) outstanding to get some flow with clean or low overdrive when other band players play solos.
but okey.
maybe next time :)
