Almost identical.... the only difference is that the Pro Mod was designed around KT88s and the Quick Rod around EL34s... so I think (and I'm not very amp-smart) that some of the voltages and values in the amps are different to accommodate this...
They both sound fantastic, but to me the PM has more low-mids and bass, and the QR has more upper-mids.

Yeah, that's the diff. Otherwise, functionality-wise the same.

if you want to hear what the pro mod can do check out the newest stuck mojo album "southern born killers" Rich Ward used a pro mod for all of it and it sounds flat out killer!!

This is the undeniably the best tone that I have ever had on a record. And that is saying a lot! I've got to give it up to the guys at Splawn. This amp in the right hands, is a monster. I say in the right hands, because this amp is super clean and open sounding. You've really got to dig in and play the guitar. After playing live with the 5150 for the last year or so, I've gotten lazy. The gain on the 5150 is smooth and super forgiving. The Marshall JMP and the 800 is what made me a great rhythm player, nothing but hair and teeth. Those amps are not for hobbiest, as they REVEAL the weakness in your playing. You really have to play the **** out of your guitar to make them sing, but when you do......the heavens open up. The Splawn has all the greatness of those old amps. They keep you honest and they make you work for what we are all searching for.....THE TONE! I talked to Scott at Splawn about building me a head that could allow me to have a touring amp that it similar to the Duke of Metal 800 head that I have used since 95. When I went to pick up the new Splawn, I also brought in the Duke head, so Scott could diagnose why she's not been "up to snuff". Hoping that it was just a capacitor or a tube issue, but no such luck and my worse fears were confirmed. After all the years of road wear my Duke of Metal head now has a bad transformer. Scott at Splawn is replacing the bad one and will bring the DOM head back to life. But, not in time for me to have it for the new Mojo album sessions! ****! Then I plugged in the Splawn and all my fears were GONE! Just to let you know, I paid for this amp, so I'm not just hyping it up because I got it for free. It's the first piece of guitar equipment that I have paid for in five or six years and it's worth every penny. Don't believe me? Just wait until you hear the album.

in simple terms...the pro mod is a bit more modern voiced where the quick rod is a bit more 80s (yet still does modern pretty well). in the works is the Nitro which will be the true modern voiced amp going after the mesa and such

WRONG...for several reasons but i'll go witht he obvious one...you can buy either amp with either KT88s, EL34s or 6550s.
They are NOT the same amp and have a different voice.

Not only are the amps different EL34's and KT88's are completely different from each other...

You know guys, I really seem to remember Scott saying that the only real difference between the two amps were the power tubes.
This was of course a while ago, before the new clean channel, etc. so it may not be the case now, but I know it was back then.
My PM is one of the original ones without all the separate gears and such. I love it. It's closer in design to the old Marshall Plexis (albeit waaaaaay more gain) with a much simpler signal path and Mercury Magnetics transformers. I haven't had a chance to play one of the newer Splawns yet, but I'm sure they're every bit as good (if a little different).

The Pro mod is a monster. The 88s give it an extended bottom and top end, and there's a very noticeable amount of extra power on tap. The QR definitely has some push, but the PM really projects. The first time I plugged into a PM it really kicked me in the nuts.
For me, it's still the same basic flavour as the QR, but it does push in a more modern direction and therefore is less interesting to me. Hell, the QR could just have first gear and I'd be fine...
