BTW and OT, but since you've had experience, how do the Rivera cabs stand up against Marshall, VHT, Etc... cabinets, soundwise?
The Rivera is much better.

I'm gonna have to go with shredder75 on this one. Even tho I'm not an Emminence fan, I've played Emminence loaded cabs on many occasions, and I would take them in a heartbeat over a cheap Peavey or Marshall cab, no matter WHAT was inside 'em.

DSS, I think that the cabinet may have been more to blame than the drivers in your experience. Even a Rivera cab with Emminence will sound better than a crapola cab with [insert high end loudspeaker name here].

I have the privelege of playing through SICK gear every week at rehearsal - Roccaforte, Diezel, VHT, Bogner, Carr, Two Rock, etc etc etc, and I think that my experience in playing in a 2 guitar high gain band situation is pretty well known. Emminence has served me just as well at rehearsals as Celestions et al. I've NEVER heard someone say they couldn't hear me!!

If Scott Splawn has voiced the cab to work with Emminence, then you can be sure that it will sound great; the man doesn't know the meaning of the word 'skimp'.

+1

let's face it, not every cab is going to couple with every amp perfectly...as you said, scott made the cab specifically to have the eminence loaded in them, and more importantly (in my siutation) made it to work well with the quick rod...

with an amp as heavy on mids as the QR is you'd have to almost play unplugged to get buried in a band...

Dirrty Craig from the band Hair Metal (you all know who he is..lol) has been usin' the eminence x pattern forever now and his sound is not only killer, but it cuts right through...

Re: Splawn vs. Mesa 2X12 Cabs

that's it...there's only one way to settle this..and I hate to have to do it to a fellow metal head but I have to throw down the gauntlet...we'll have to thumb wrestle =D

anywho, on a serious note..as I said to TO, not every cab is going to match up with every amp as nicely as we'd want it to...

to me, the V30's are pushing the wrong frequencies..lots of highs...I've listened to alotta clips and I've owned and played through alotta cabs and I just don't like the V30's...

there's a ton of clips on www.rocksolidamps.com a couple of the Quick Rod (just to keep a point of reference here) through a framus cab using V30's...and it sounds thin and a little fizzy..
another clip I've heard was the QR through a bogner uber cab (full band, not just guitar like my clips) and when compared to similar clips through the splawn cab, the splawn, IMO wins every time...

like I said, you like what you like..can't fault you for that..for the whole extreme metal thing, hey, maybe the V30's are the holy grail of speakers..for me, I'll take the eminence..I've known quite a few who have sold their marshall, mesa, genz benz cabs (all highly regarded cabs) for the splawn...

nowwwwwwwww, on a related note..you CAN get splawn cabs with celestions in there..in fact the one that the guy who started this thread was looking into was loaded with celestions..I know because I talk to him just about daily on the splawn boards..so I know exactly what gear he uses...

so really the whole eminence vs celestion was really not an issue here with what he was looking into =)

the proof is in the pudding as they say....when I gig out with my setup in about a month I might actaully have some quasi professional video to put up..if alll goes well...we'll see what we'll see =)

What I meant is that you're not running through a high quality recording rig, and thus the speakers will play less of a role in the overall sound

I mainly meant recorded... If you took those clips and loaded them up with a band behind it, the V30's would sound cleaner, clearer, more defined, and more upfront. If that's bad tone to you... then so be it.

I don't purchase amps or speakers based on who uses them, either, but I do take advice from those with extensive experience in the area at hand. The three guys I mentioned are 3 of the biggest producers in extreme metal.

That probably did play a big factor in my rather (limited) experience. I still find, however, that even in my Rivera cab that the V30's sound better than the Eminence copies of them. BTW and OT, but since you've had experience, how do the Rivera cabs stand up against Marshall, VHT, Etc... cabinets, soundwise?

Again, I could always hear myself, but I find that V30's always sound cleaner and clearer. But you also have to consider that I'm using a much more extreme amd modern tone than you are, in a much more extreme metal setting ;).

The voicing of the cabinets also has a lot to do with it, yes.

I'll admit, Eminences sound amazing in the room, but I find that when you run them through a 57 or i5 and to desk, the V30's just mic up the best.
