Split coil pickups as on P bass... possible in SC format?

G&L use these and call them Z coils, but they just, to me, look wrong. Would it be possible to do a similar design, but over a single coil..? I.e two coils side by side but not like rails.

The Vintage Rails is similar, but you said no rails.

I think Dimarzio's Modle J is made like that as well. A pair of single coils RW/RP from each other and wired together (either ins series or parallel, I'm not sure).

Re: Split coil pickups as on P bass... possible in SC format?

If both coils are wired a bit differently, then not all true SC frequencies would cancel and it could result in a 'not totally single coil but more single coil than most other noiseless pickups' pup I guess.

duckbucker =P

it's not a rails pickup

But still a standard humbucking design....

What Pierre means is like this-> {coil 1}{coil 2}

it´s possible, but not common... you could theoretically wind this on a standard single coil bobbin and just flip one trio of poles around.....
