Split shaft and solid shaft knobs on potentiometers

Re: Split shaft and solid shaft knobs on potentiometers

Yes, but if you do, tighten the set screw into the split, not into the splined surfaces of the shaft. Ideally, use those little brass adapter rings. You can get them from All-Parts and other parts stores.

ive done it plenty of times, like itsa said, put the screw into the split. sometimes it might not be perfectly centered but usually pretty close

Re: Split shaft and solid shaft knobs on potentiometers

I have cut small wafers of paper and put into the splits

Re: Split shaft and solid shaft knobs on potentiometers

It isn't as easy to find solid shaft pots in stores these days. I usually use the split ones- I have a few of the brass pieces, but I usually have to split apart the 2 sides to get them to fit properly. I hate when knobs turn all wobbly.

Indeed, I cant find any 500k pots here localy that are solid shafts.
