Split shaft tuning machines ... dumb question?

Re: Split shaft tuning machines ... dumb question?

Split shaft machines ... I know that they still make them in a 6 in-line for a vintage Fender thing. There may be others making them but I don't know of any. Is there not a market for them or is there some type of flaw in the design for guitar? Obviously they are the standard for Bass guitars.

If you need 3x3, just get a set of left-hand tuners and use 3 RH and 3 LH. If other companies aren’t making them I would suspect there is a patent and licensing preventing it.

Some companies also allow you to pick the individual tuners, so you can have 6 inline, 3×3, 4×2, or any other combination you want.

Weird.

Edit: Holy- I totally forgot I own a guitar with these same tuners. I thought they were the old 'diamond' style, but they're modern/sealed on my '87 SC3 .
