I love low filtering in amps, so I tend to add some squish when I re-cap them. Of all of mine, my Valco, Wards PA head is the spongiest. Mix it with an Alnico speaker and I am in heaven.
filering can have an effect on the spongy quality of an amp but the 2 biggerst things are a tube rectifier and alnico speakers...my Mission Amps tweed super is pretty spongy sounding.
A nice spongy sound leads to a nice singing quality when cranked!

It actually has a dramatic effect, my Valco does not have a tube rectifier. Once I lowered to 20 uF cans down from the 50 Uf cans, it really got that beautiful squish. Easily as much as any of my tube rectified heads. My Carlsbro, Kelly and Stramp heads all were much improved when I lowered the values. None are tube rectified. I love a big 'round' sound softer bottom and fat hi end, I am addicted to it.....
