Spontaneous Warmoth Build...Something A Bit Different!

Re: Spontaneous Warmoth Build...Something A Bit Different!

That is a shame to completely cover the wood grain of a Roasted body! But still should be a cool project!

I anxious to hear how the roasted Alder body sounds. I recently purchased a roasted Adler neck for a build I haven't started, and I've never touched or even seen a smoother, faster, better looking neck. I might like to try a girlfriend made from roasted Alder next.

Roasted Alder for a neck? Or Roasted Maple?

It's a little odd for sure. I can kind of see the merits, but, yeah, a thinner and/or more natural finish would have been my personal choice.

Still, I think it's going to an incredibly lively guitar! Between this neck and the body, I don't think I've ever been quite as excited to see how a guitar plays/feels once put together!

Re: Spontaneous Warmoth Build...Something A Bit Different!

Definitely! Is the neck roasted too? (sorry if I missed that detail)

All of my Roasted wood guitars are light and resonant.

Looking forward to the end result!

Re: Spontaneous Warmoth Build...Something A Bit Different!

This is gonna be one of the best hybrids I've ever seen!

Re: Spontaneous Warmoth Build...Something A Bit Different!

I really like that even though it ticks pretty much every box I have for things I don't like in a guitar. Funny how that works, isn't it? The whole is greater than the sum and all that...

Re: Spontaneous Warmoth Build...Something A Bit Different!

I get it, sometimes I find myself drawn to designs I would usually never pick out on my own, but when seen as a whole, it somehow makes sense.

No, the neck is just standard quartersawn Maple, but it's an unusually substantial piece. I have at least 3 other Warmoth necks and none of them feel like this one, even though they are all maple (some quartersawn) with the same thickness/carve/profile!

I like Floyded "super" strats and Teles and Warmoth's normal "Hybrid Strat" on their own, but never would have dreamed up combining a bit of all of them into one guitar. Like you, I think it's just odd enough to work!

Yeah, this is definitely one of those cases! :)

*BUMP*

Inquiring minds want to know if it's taken off the ground yet.

FWIW, I REALLY like that mockup of the pickguard on it, it just, works!

Re: Spontaneous Warmoth Build...Something A Bit Different!

Definitley a different combination of features; like the Warhead Headstock Maple Board and S/S/S with Floyd Set Up. Look forward to seeing it progress.

Ironically; I have been tempted to pick up a similar Warmoth Build that's been decorating the walls at one of the local shops for a while now as I thought it an unusual take on a Strat/Tele Combo.

This blue one is Schmexy!!!

Re: Spontaneous Warmoth Build...Something A Bit Different!

Nice reference with the Charvel! I photoshopped something similar and it didn't quite look right...the Tele control plate changes the look/lines

I'm just getting the final parts in for it, but the build is definitely a priority

Still need to work out getting the custom pickguard done, though...

I have one of those aiiiiiiiiiiiiiii. Sadly some clown head routed it out for HSS.

#lifehappens, but this project is officially back on the bench!

Bridge, control plate, pots, and strap buttons are installed, but I ran into a small issue with the last batch of Tru-Oil I used to finish the neck, so I'm in the process of sanding it down slightly and applying some fresh coats.

Also, I just finished drafting up a proper outline for the custom pickguard. Now I just have to figure out how to get it made!

YESS That looks super-cool! better than the tele PG.

Get a cheap band saw. That will rough cut the pick guard then use a drill and small jewelers saw for the holes. A nice scroll saw works good too. Then get a nice scraper blade from stew-Mac and smooth the edges and get the bevel right. Leave a little extra at the edges at first to play with. It takes a bit of work but it’s better than paying someone to make it full custom and the tools are useful to have.

Re: Spontaneous Warmoth Build...Something A Bit Different!

A little bit Elliot Easton, a little bit Jeff Beck and a little bit Fender '51. Unique and way cool with the SSS set up. Will look forward to seeing it completed.

I do like your custom PG design, but I have to admit that I like the Tele style better on your guitar. Makes it look more custom hybrid rather than cheap-China-Strat-wanna-be.
