Sprague Bumblebee Find - Are These Good??

The Usual

New member
I just got a hold of a bunch of untouched vintage Sprague Bumble Bee caps. The colours on them are brown, green, red, black, space, blue.

My best guess is that these are .0015. Is that the same as the common .015? I am not an expert on reading these things. I'd appreciate the help. I already have the colour code link. Just want to verify that I read it right, and if a 0 is commonly dropped.

.0015 and .015 are NOT the same thing, sorry bro. a .0015 could be used for some things but not as a treble roll off tone control. it would barely make a difference, youd hear it but its pretty subtle.

Re: Sprague Bumblebee Find - Are These Good??

if they are .0015, they might be fun on a treble bleed circuit on a volume pot with a 100k resistor.

Re: Sprague Bumblebee Find - Are These Good??

Thanks guys. THat's what I thought. Maybe I could knit them in series to make a guitar strap/treble roll off. What do you think???

Re: Sprague Bumblebee Find - Are These Good??

0s are never dropped in anything electrical or mathematical, particularly those on the negative side of a whole number, unless they trail off to infinity. If the color chart says 0.0015, it could be 0.00150 but never less (or more) than 0.0015.

Re: Sprague Bumblebee Find - Are These Good??

its a fine value to have, just not what you want for a typical tone control.

Re: Sprague Bumblebee Find - Are These Good??

Unfortunately it sounds like you've been had by an unscrupulous seller who's merely trying to cash in on the whole Sprague Bumblebee fanaticism. Obviously this company made tons more components than just the "holy grail" tone capacitors, though that's probably all they'll be famous for.

That doesn't stop jerks with a stockpile of everything else they made from trying to pass them off as said "holy grail".

Re: Sprague Bumblebee Find - Are These Good??

Connecting 10 .0015 capacitor in parallel would make a .015 capacitor, but would be pretty awkward to put into a tone control circuit.

Treble bleed mod would appear to be the main use. They might also be useful with active pups - cant remeber waht value they normally use off the top of my head.

Nah, it's not like that at all. Got them for next to nothing. The deal was so good, I had to grab them. Not that what you're saying doesn't happen all the time. Just didn't happen to me. THis time, anyway.
