spray strat body

hi guys,
i wish to paint spray my strat guitar body one colour, first what type of paint do i buy???? just give me some starting points, i do have a cheap guitar to try on first, hope you guys can help,

If you want easy and cheap -

Scuff sand it with a fine grade sanding pad. (200-300 grit)
Spray with silver or white lacquer as a base.
Spray with lacquer finish color.
Spray with lacquer clear.

Start very light with the coats, you'll need to do at least 2-3 coats of the base and finish colors, and 3+ coats of clear. If you want it looking semi-pro wet-sand with a very fine grit (600+) in between coats to smooth it out.

Do NOT use enamel paints.

True except with metallic color coats. Sanding metallics, or sanding through from the clear coat, will dull and alter the tone of the color coat by changing the orientation of the metallic flakes. With metallics don't sand the color coat and wait until after the clear coat is built up to prevent sanding through.

big thanks to the above posts on spraying etc, i am good with my hand and with the above tips on spraying i am sure to get the job done, i have a cheap guitar body to pratice on and will make any mistakes on this one, thanks again guys,
