Squealing EMG's! HELP!

I have a LTD F-100 FM w/ an 81/85 set and on my JSX I don't have a problem with them but my buddy has the same guitar setup w/ an ADA pre and power amp with a Digitech 256 XL and his amp squeals like a pig! It doesn't matter how far away you are from the amp or if you are facing away. We even adjusted the gain, treble, and bass to no avail. Is there anything I can tell him to do to his guitar or does he have to get rid of that dinosaur amp of his? Any responses will be appreciated.:grumble:

All of the connections are okay? It does this with just his guitar, yes?

Re: Squealing EMG's! HELP!

Sometimes, it helps to unscrew the pickup rings, pull up the pickups, and put a wad of foam under them to dampen any microphonics. But then, I saw the word Digitech and my attention was focused on that. Plug his guitar into your rig, and see what happens. Plug your guitar into his and see what happens.

Friends don't let friends buy Digitech.

Amen on the Digitech Gearjoneser!! Poop in, poop out! My guitar does squeal on his rig. My git-fiddle squeals on my other friend's rig too. A crate 200 watt rack mount w/ a Peavey Rockmaster pre-amp. But on my Peavey JSX, no squeal. I guess that's the difference between a rig and a turd with speakers!! LOL!!!
I am going to try the foam thing though. Any more suggestions???

Re: Squealing EMG's! HELP!

hey man,
I had a similar problem a long time ago. I was using a stock MP-1 back then (i use a 3TM modded now) and when I did the Noise Mod (replace filter caps) on both of the tube board and main board, it helped clear that problem.

its because of those very old caps in there.

You can also check for microphonic tubes in there. squealing is usually a sign of that.

Also.. believe it or not.. try taking out the Digitech out of the signal line and go preamp into poweramp into cabinet directly without effects unit. I had a friend of mine with a Digitech unit have some noise problem that was caused by the Digitech.

Hope that helps!

Re: Squealing EMG's! HELP!

I wasn't pissing in his pool, I was trying to do him a favor by finding out what the problem was with his rig as he is "technologically ignorant". Anyway, my Peavey JSX is tremendously better than his rig and, as I said previously, I was doing HIM a favor :grumble:
