Squealing SD Five-Two Tele Bridge Pickup.................

I have a Seymour Duncan Five-Two tele bridge pickup that squeals at a medium to high gain. I got this pickup in a trade and installed it in a custom homemade copper pickguard for a strat build I own. I own another Five-Two in a tele build and I do not have these problems with it. I am wondering if I need to wax pot the copper clad base plate since I get sound through the amp when I tap the pickguard. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I have a Five Two and don't have any squealing problems. I wonder if it was left in a hot car? Maybe it just needs to be re-potted...

Make sure the pickguard is well cranked down. The small tele bridges are terrible for squeal, so I can only imagine how bad a copper guard must be.

No tele bridge on this guitar. Strat with a strat bridge and a custom copper pickguard with a tele pickup bridge rout. Mounted using springs instead of the surgical tubing.

I have another Five-Two and no issues.

Thank you sir. The pickguard is as tight as I could get it. I've used this pickguard with SD Antiquities and had no problems which sort of makes me think it could be the base plate or needs more wax potting. Thanks Alex, you know your stuff.

Ok, then yes we move onto other sources of possible vibration. I'd now be looking at substituting in the tubing when you mount the pickup again, as that is a much more universal vibration damper than the springs.....and of course more work on the baseplate.
