Squealing with Antiquity Jaguar Pickups

I have a set of antiquity pickups in my Jaguar. I love how they sound buy they squeal like crazy with any kind of volume. I don't use a ton of gain either.

This isn't musical feedback, it is high pitched piercing squeal. Any ideas how to get rid of it? According to SD these are wax potted so I have no idea what to try.

Jaguars sort of just squeal. Removing the pickup claw (or securing it better, ex. stuffing the pickup cavity with foam) can help.

i have a trio of antiquity jag pups in a strat and they dont squeal at all but i dont have a claw on em. i assume it squeals in all switch positions?

Yeah it squeals regardless of the pickup. I was worried it might be the claw... The think is the look of the claw is so rad so I'd rather not remove it.

Are they squealing at any volume, no matter where you stand? You are right, they are supposed to be wax potted. They shouldn't be squealing like that.

Re: Squealing with Antiquity Jaguar Pickups

I did a little poking around and it seems it can be the claw causing the microphonics.

I'm going to pot the claw to the back of the pickup and go from there.

Re: Squealing with Antiquity Jaguar Pickups

This is speculation, but while potting the claw to the pickup or (as I mentioned) stuffing the cavity can help, the claw can still vibrate somewhat like tines of a tuning fork; I wonder if potting it to the cover somehow, or packing the space tight between the cover and claw, can help.

Re: Squealing with Antiquity Jaguar Pickups

I'm in a Jaguar state of mind, so here's a PSA from me pulling out mine: Happened to notice increased noise/squeal from the bridge pickup versus my recollection. I don't often play my Jaguar to be honest... It's more of a case queen lately so it could have been a while, who knows.

Touched the claw; buzzed. Checked continuity; yep, turns out the claw was un-grounded. I'm not certain how the claw on the Antiquities are, but on the SJAG-1 it's a wire along the bottom of the pickup that just sandwiches itself against the claw. If it won't contact the claw, you can (conveniently) pry up a bit; or you can solder the thing, but the magnet will hold the cover on and ground it on its own. Believe it actually was soldered with the stock pickups (but it's been a while,) perhaps Antiquities are the same.

I'm sure ditching the claw would result in less squeal, but you'd lose some shielding (don't know about you but my Jaguar is quiet...) Not to mention a change in the tone.
