Squier Hotrails Delux: Pup blade not uniform thickness and height

Re: Squier Hotrails Delux: Pup blade not uniform thickness and height

Now I want one just to read that on the headstock.

Me too. I wonder how hard it would be to make that decal? ;)

I get that you are worried about squeezing every last drop of tone possible out your hard earned dollar, but let's be honest: This isn't going to be an epic guitar of awesomeness.

You might be surprised. Even though I have other Strats with "real" Duncans, I believe this one's a keeper. Sounds killer.

Overall, I agree that Squire Price/performance on QA etc beats say, A Gibson USA Les Paul Custom.

And I'm not saying it won't be a great guitar. I'm saying we are trying to determine pickup blade thickness on a guitar of practically unknown specs, made of an unknown wood, made in an unknown location.

All that said - Squire, Duncan Designed, I'd rock it. It's gonna be decent to good at worst....

Re: Squier Hotrails Delux: Pup blade not uniform thickness and height

Well I have already returned 3 guitars. No more returns. Thats why I need to make sure I get this one right.

I dont think I can tell if the pups have been switched based on just hearing. I can tell if a pup position sounds with a lot of mid range, you know like a Kipsch without any EQ. I dont mind if there is more high end with laid back mids as that is the type of sound I like.

I dont have an amp with EQ nor I am planning to hook up the guitar to my audio receiver to do the EQ. So as long as they will not have too much mid range (very forward sounding), it is fine with me even if the pups have been switched.

Basically I am looking for a guitar with a lot of sustain. I should have gone with the Schecter Sun Valley Super Shredder with the Sustaniac in the first place instead of trying other low end guitars or any DIY. I dont want to buy the Schecter without trying it out, even if it is a model without the Sustaniac as I dont like the location of the toggle switch which is right where my fingers will be. I cant find a place where I can play that Schecter. The local GC does not have the Schecter Sun Valley.

Does a "middle" Hot Rails even exist? There'd be no need for an RW/RP because it's inherently self humbucking.

Well not sure, although these are labelled with a sticker or marker which have n, m & b in the name/code denoting where they are to be used. The neck & middle are the same pickup on these though, may have tolerance differences in their R values.

You could open it up & move the pickups to the right posistion if they are interchanged from factory. Only thing is that the 5way switch will give you neck+bridge in 4 position, bridge in 3 pos & middle in 5 position.

That's interesting. I'll have to check mine. I only checked them with a meter, the first time.
