Squier Mustang Grounding Issue

I have put pickups in this guitar that I know are dead quiet but I still get a loud hum worse than single coil hum. My guitar tech wired it up and it had the hum. I rewired again still hums. I showed the wiring to my guitar tech and he said it looks good, neater than he would do. Checked the bridge ground. These are Dimarzio Rails and they are dead quiet in my other guitars. Any suggestions? Is my guitar Haunted!?

Re: Squier Mustang Grounding Issue

The one thing I did was replace the pickguard and I put tin foil on it and the last pickguard had copper on it. There is this little copper tab coming out from the pickup cavity. Maybe it doesn't ground with the tin foil. That is all I can think of that would be an issue.

Any screening materials that are not securely grounded might as well not be there. If, in fact, the screening is connected to the signal side of the circuit, it will acts as an RF aerial.

I am not willing to comment on any other possible causes of your hum problem without seeing photographs of the guitar's wiring.

The guitar is not haunted...but you might be overlooking something.

In all sincerity the pickguard isn't part of the equation in terms of GROUNDING.

if its humming so loudly that is a ground issue, not a shielding issue.

plus humbuckers kind of cancel out the need for shielding.

I mean none of my humbucker guitars has been totally shielded and it's never given me an issue.

now the real questions are: are you using a real amp? is it a tube amp? Have you tried a different amp?

are you positive the wiring is done correctly?

did you remove any other wires from the original installation than what was already there?
