Hello. I have a squier standard stratocaster. I installed a seymour duncan jb jr to bridge position. The problem is that it has no power, low volume... stock single coils are much louder and stronger. I soldered red and white together, black to switch, green and braid to ground. I allso tried the green to swich and black to ground. Doesnt work as i hoped. Allso i cannot solder the tone control to bridge because this guitar has unusual 7 soldering pins instead 8 on 5 way swich. Can you help me?

need pics..
not quite clear on the tone either.. as there are several spots that the tone can be soldered too as well

Pictures always help. Also, to make sure the pickup isn't at fault, you can try wiring it directly to the jack and see if it is working. My guess is that it is a wiring problem though.

you mean hot to jack and ground to ground? both to jack or ground to tone?

what spots? there are only 7 soldering spots on 5 way swich. if i remove one i can solder it only back to the same spot. am i right? what did you mean?

you dont have to wire the tone to the switch even though alot do.. it sorta depends i guess.. as long as its to a hot.. ive wired them up to the 1st lug of a volume pot or the middle one or the switch on occasion..

if the spot your talking about.. if the tab goes to master volume.. just wire the tone to it or on the volume like i have already mentioned.. Electronically it will be the exact same thing

did you go by a wiring diagram or what.. Im making an assumption that the switch is a import 5 way.. got a pic of the switch?.. alot of those imports have 2 commons..

i put off the neck tone connection and use it as bridge tone.

IMO much easier to get the desired result you are looking for with a 5 way super switch.. not sure it can be done with that switch.. maby but with never using one.. not sure.. you might hook the tone up to the bridge tab and that might give you the result you are looking for.. I definitely know what your asking can be done with a super w/o too much difficulty

question do you want just one tone..and for the bridge.. disconnect the others tones from the switch and connect the tone to the middle tab of the volume pot..

do you have a meter? ive never seen a switch like that. there is always a way to get a tone control on a pup.

mincer was saying to wire the black wire of the jb jr to the tip of the jack and the green wire to the sleeve of the jack. red and white soldered together and insulated.

I searched and cannot find a simple explanation and/or diagram for the import 7 tab straight line switches used in a Strat (5 positions for 3 pickups). Fender uses 2 sided switches, but cheap imports use 7 or 8 tab switches. The problem I cannot find a solution to is simple : I want the forward tone control to alter the neck pickup and the bridge pickup. That is all. The neck and bridge pickups are never on together, so the forward tone knob can control both neck and bridge pickups and gives 'in between positions (2 and 4) two tone knobs for 2 pickups). But how to we do it in a 7 tab switch ?
