Squier Tele bridge magnet?

Just curious if anyone would know if this Squier Tele had A2 or A5 mag pole pieces? The specs just say "Alnico". It uses a full bridge baseplate and does not have the magnet glued to the bottom.

Thanks all.

Re: Squier Tele bridge magnet?

They are A5...Fender has never produced an Alnico II pickup. The only fenders that have Alnico II pups are the Lite ash strat and Tele which come stock with Duncan APS-1's.

Re: Squier Tele bridge magnet?

Thanks tgwif. This pup is terrible. Tinny, lifeless, etc. I was toying with the idea of trying my hand at rewinding. Doing a "scatterwind". Might be worth a try.

Re: Squier Tele bridge magnet?

Yeah, it does. But its attached with screws, so should come off fairly easily.

Now . . . I wonder what wire gauge and insulation they use for Antiquity's? :D

I've been eyeing one of those myself. Other than the stock pickups, how is the guitar?

Its pretty much what you'ld expect in this price range. Electronics were complete crap. I even had a bad solder connection on the wire that went from the volume control to the output jack. It would cut in and out. The pickups were terrible. (Then again, I'm spoiled by Duncans.) But none of that mattered to me. I knew I was going to replace all that.

The only real issue with the guitar itself is it needs a fret dressing real bad. I told someone else in another thread that it wasn't a problem, but I've just noticed a slight irritation on my index finger where it hits the edge of a fret during barre chords. Other than that, its fine. The tuners are the smoothest of any guitar I have.

Along with the Duncans in my sig, I did CTS pots, orange drop cap, Fender 3-way, and a switchcraft jack. The tone pot isn't a CTS just yet, but it will be soon. I didn't have a CTS push/pull in my parts bin. :)

I'd say it was a perfectly fine guitar, if you plan on replacing the electronics.

Sidenote: Check out the wax on the humbucker. I could put up jelly jars with that. :D

A Fralin would be cool.

Do you suppose that no one told them that the wax goes inside the cover? :D
