Squire tele custom p90s

Hey guys

I recently bought a new Fender 65 Deluxe Reverb reissue, and man does that clean sound make you cry, it's amazing! I have a squire tele plugged into it, with P90 pickups...

Basically, the issue I'm having is I can't seem to make my dist/overdrive pedals sounds equally as sweet as the cleans... On my Mesa rect-o-verb the pedals are great but I can't seem to make them sound any good through the 65 deluxe..

At the moment I have the Crowther Audio Hotcake and the Boss Blues Driver plugged into it, and on the bridge pickup, when either pedal is on, the drive sounds 'scratchy' where on the Mesa, it sounds lush and smooth...

Can anyone help or tell me what I'm doing wrong?? Maybe give me suggestions as to what pickups i can put in my tele?

Thanks a heap!

Re: Squire tele custom p90s

different amps = different flavors and thats all there is to it. my TS9-DX sounds bad@ss through my neighbor's Hot Road Deluxe, but I hate it on my amp.

Re: Squire tele custom p90s

I know there should be a difference... but in the Mesa it sounds great, through the fender it sounds like it's farting at me, really gross, im sure it shouldn't be like this... I've been told the fender works great with pedals... i duno :(

Re: Squire tele custom p90s

well I cant think of any reason a P90 guitar+Blues Driver+Deluxe Reverb should sound bad at all.... hm I dunno. How does it sound with your other guitars?

Re: Squire tele custom p90s

It's definitely a pedal / amp issue and has almost nothing to do with the guitar you're using.

Re: Squire tele custom p90s

Yeh I think this is more the amp/pedal - I might try getting the Keeley mod with the blues driver, but as for the hotcake, i'm totally lost..

Re: Squire tele custom p90s

just adjust your pedals' EQ knobs...or use your Mesa.

Mesa's whole company is based on the idea that Fender cleans are great but they need better dirt than pedals can give them.

i was actually surprised to see you even use pedals with a Rectoverb. Recto dirt is usually nothing but awesome.

Re: Squire tele custom p90s

I mostly use the pedals on the mesa to get something a bit lighter and a bit different as well as the second channel. The whole idea of the fender was mostly for the cleans, but because it is much smaller and more portable I wanted to be able to use it for some dirt when needed also... i'll try the EQs on the pedals, see if that helps, thanks

If I'm not mistaken, that Squier Tele Custom II with P-90's has an agathis body.

Personally, agathis is still relatively new to the market, and the flak it gets is due to the fact that it's mostly used on the lower end versions.

i'm having a hard time understanding what this has to do with.......anything.
