SRV wah-wah on "Say what!"

In the "signature licks" book I read that Stevie used two pedals at the same time- sitting on a stool and rocking them in opposite directions- one goes up when the second goes down.
One of them was Jimi's pedal from the "Up from the skies" track.

Cool

Gotta like the dude.

I never tried it actually... that's a a nice thing to check... how would it work while using them together in the same way (my guess it won't have too much influence, you're change the tone in the same direction each time), and rocking them the oppossite ways...
But if I would buy another pedal, I guess I won't go for the same brand I own now- just to have diversification... and SRV used to Vox pedals.

Wouldn't two wahs at the same time sound a lot like a phaser pedal? A wah makes basically a big mid range EQ hump that moves back and forth, and a phaser is a whole bunch of EQ humps that move back and forth . . .

No, there's a whole lot more coloring to the sound when playing a Wah...
The final result sounded -in a way- more like a Cry Baby then a Vox...

"Two wah-wahs at the same time?

SRV: Yeah, I did it a couple of different ways during the session. Sometimes I would just sit on a stool and work both of them separately. Sometimes I would get a piece of rackmount, you know what I’m talkin’ about? The spacer. And I would set it on top of the wah-wahs with the major part of it hangin’ off in the back so when you turn it on and take your foot off, it wouldn’t go squeak [imitates the rise/fall of a wah-wah]. And what it amounted to is if you hit the front end on the right-hand side you could turn that one on by itself and if you hit on the left-hand side you could turn it on and off. And in the middle it was like serious overdrive. But it was fun.

You can get some wild sounds out of ‘em ‘cause one of ‘em drives the other one and then it goes from there and then I’m drivin’ the first wah-wah with a [Ibanez] Tube Screamer. So by the time it gets to the amp it’s like, it’s fun, it’s a lot of fun."

Re: SRV wah-wah on "Say what!"

I have 2 Wahs on my board. I actually have 2 boards. One I use with my Shiva and the other I use with my Super Reverb. (I have a 3rd board set up that I keep at my bands rehearsal space to use with a Marshall). One of the Wahs I can use with either so on ocassions I turn them both on. Its pretty hard to control, but it does offer a unique sound.
