Hi there...
Just picked up a '78 (EVH) pickup for my Strat; I had thought about pairing it with APSs but was wondering how that pickup would work with the Texas Specials I have already on hand? I had them with a PG+ and seemed like a good balance if you lowered the TS pretty far. Since then I have had them at a decent height and matched with an Air Zone - Air Zone sounded good, TS sounded muddy so I had to always grab the tone and vloume when I switched from bridge. So, tried TS with a JB and had seperate volumes put in and a master tone - better but still not a smooth transition.
Should I re-wire back to normal with master volume and tone on neck/mid and bridge? If so, what values would work best? If I run a 250 to keep the TS under control, will that make the 78 muddy? Or run 500 and TS are too bright? Should the 78 run with a 500 and no tone ala Eddie?
Would like to get this Strat back to #1 status; being able to do SRV/Jimi/Trower/Buddy Guy single coil sounds with neck/mid then flip to bridge for early VH/ZZ Top/80s rock would be perfect for what I play - can it be done with what I have on hand? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
