SSL-1 California 50's set - are the neck and bridge pickup the same?

Hey all,

I dropped the California 50's set in my Clapton strat over the weekend, and couldn't be more thrilled with the tone (I was replacing Lace Sensors). The middle pup was RWRP obviously, but the neck & bridge pickup seemed the same (they even measured the resistance same on a DMM). I was just wondering, in my haste, could I have accidentally mistaken the bridge pickup for the neck, or are they essentially same pickup? I don't recall that they were marked differently, but as I said, I was in a hurry to hear 'em! And they sounded great! Just thought I'd double check as to avoid problems down the road.

Thanks!

Oh yeah - 1, in spite of what everyone says, traditional single coils sound just fine in a Clapton Strat. No excess noise - it sounds like a normal Strat. And 2, the SSL-1 are great sounding pickups at any price. I wish I would have made the change years ago.

yep they are the same, seems to work fine tho!
did you jumper the bridge pickup to the mid tone control or leave it open?
i dont know about "what everyone says" either! lol. I reckon you'll find that a lot of ppl round here would prefer real singles to whatever else you can install in a strat.

I hear the SSL-5/6 also makes a good match for the bridge

The SSL5/6 makes a great bridge pickup for just about any lower dc resistance vintage spec type middle and neck singles...

I use it with a set of Fat 50s and it's great...Still nice quack for bridge/middle also..I Like the middle pickup a bit lower...The SSL5/6 in my opinion works best with the setting of no less than 3/32" measured at the highest fret and with both E strings depressed...I have been using this pickup for ions!

The David Gilmour bridge pickup!

I kept the wiring stock for a Clapton strat: Master volume, master tone (of the TBX variety ... starts dialing the tone pot out of the circuit when you turn it past 5) and the 25db midrange boost. It adds a little sparkle of its own when you turn the volume past 7.5, and the mid boost is great for nudging a just about to break up amp into overdrive.
