SSL-1's vs Fat 50's vs other?

Hopefully will get some money shortly for my birthday and I want to put some new pups in my strat. After purchasing recording gear lately it's become evident that the pups in my MIM strat are too dark. Therefore I'm looking for a nice set of Alnico 5 vintage strat pickups. I play blues mostly so I want a good overdriven tone. Around the time I get new pups my rig will be a Fulltone 69 and peavey classic 30. What else would help you advise some pickups? And what else besides the ssl-1's and fat 50's would you recommend?

Edit: I'm on a budget so don't tempt me with Surfers/other boutique pups please.
2nd Edit: Anyone know if the Van Zandt True Vintage pickups are A5? And how do they compare to the SSL's and Fat 50's?

You've got a lot of choices with SD. Check out the sound samples on the website. I've been using Fat '50's for quite a while (although I don;t play my Strat that often). They sound great (better than the Texas Specials IMO), but like I said you have more choices with Duncan.

I've used Fender Fat 50's, Texas Specials, 57/62's, American Standards and the SSL-1's. The SSL-1's are IMHO the best Strat pups for the money. :fingersx:

SSL-1s are killer for vintage, chimey strat tone...
