SSL-4 Quarter Pound- Really like P-90?

I would love a P-90 sound in the neck position of my strat, but I'm not too keen on gouging a big hole in my guitar. How accurate is SD's description of the Quarter Pound? Does it really sound like a P-90? What's different?

The QP's are loud, punchy and they have a wider frequency range than most single coils but they don't sound like a p-90. The QP's just don't sound sweet and warm like a good p-90.

You might want to look at the Fralins SP42 or 43's.

i love the qp and there is some p90 fatness and bite but its not quite the same.
ive never really played a strat sized, or humbucker sized for that matter, pup that sounded exactly like a great p90. ive tried the qp in the neck and it does sound huge and round, so does the p90 in my r6 but the qp has a little more upper mids and not quite as wide a tone. it is very hot in that position and can be muddy with the wrong settings but it can be cool in the right guitar.

The reason I'm recommending these is because Seymour Duncan currently offers nothing like this. Both Dimarzio and Rio Grande make P-90's in a single coil size.

Thanks guys. Great suggestions. I may end up performing a little surgery and just going P-90. OR I did see that rondomusic.com has a SX strat w/ P-90s too. Hmmm...the GAS sets in again.
