To me that always means getting the cleanest, iciest middle you can find. The Classic Stack and Vintage Rails are great for the middle, but then you won't have the hum cancelling effect in 2 & 4. Otherwise the Vintage flat is probably the way to go. The look isn't right, but at this point, I would start recommending the Bartolini 3X or 3XQ, or an APC 200, because I think you'd love the combination sounds. The vast difference between a hot, overwound neck pickup (or one CC coil) and the distilled hyper-clean middle makes an extremely complex phase relationship. I have the APC with a G&L S500 neck pickup, which although it sounds very different is the same idea as the Custom Flat. Hey that guitar also has the SH-11!:clap:
