SSL-5 with Ceramic Humbucker in HSS?

Hi guys,

So I have an HSS pacifica whih I would like to beef up. The sound i'm going for is the classic heavy 80s ceramic-in-bridge type sound. So straight off the bat i am thinking of putting a Dimarzio Transition in the bridge because I think they sound fantastic.

Problem is, i dont know what single coils would match that nicely. I want a strat type sound for positions 3, 4 and 5, but with more output. Anyone have any experience with putting SSL5s with a ceramic humbucker?

I really like the ssl5 sound just unsure about its compatibility in that set up so if anyone can recommend something similarthat would be fab.

Cheers!

I bet that would work. I've tried the ssl5 in the neck and it's not overly hot so I bet they would balance fine.

About 15 years ago I had a Pacifica where I put a Duncan Designed Invader copy in the bridge and SSL5 copy in the neck and it worked pretty well. Even with that kind of output the neck sure sounded like a single coil pickup and it turned a humbuckers only guy onto having a couple of single coil pickups around. So I think that what your thinking would work well, and sound great!

Sure, that would work, and you'd have a better chance of the pickups balancing volume-wise. Thing is, I'd use 500k pots, as the tone of the SSL-5 (or -6, which I like better) is darker than a traditional single coil.
