SSL1 is out-of-phase with other pickups brands

I really don't understand why SSL-1 (SSL-2 too) are wired out-of-phase with many other pickups brands, Fender for example ? And reversing the wires causes more noise, especially when you touch the magnets. A real headache for me because I would like to use SSL-1 in neck position with Fender Fat 50 RW/RP in midlle position. Any help please ?

To correct it in a strat, reverse the other 2 pickups from the other brand. That moves the RW/RP pickup away from your Duncan.

SSL1 is not RP but only RW compared to other brands ! As I've wrote before, when you reverse the wires (black to hot and white to ground), you make the pickup noisier. You can test it by touching the magnets with your fingers : much more noise when reversing. And for your info, a RW/RP Suhr pickup is a... normal one compared to others.

Blame Fender, they are the ones that have changed their specs over the years. The SSLs are wound to original Fender specs. Fender started changing their specs and SD followed for a time but finally decided it was too big a pain to keep following Fenders fickle whims.

People are attemping to help you here. This isnt the first time this has come up. I dont think you caught what Gearjonesr meant. If you swap your existing middle and bridge pickups positions the the SSL should pair up fine.

as noted, this is a common problem

Robert's correct ... the reasons for SD's winding pattern & magnetic polarity are covered in one of the FAQs on the main page. Since the SSL is a vintage type pickup, SD built it like an original, with as close as possible materials and methods.

and BTW, it's a great pickup!

I just tend to stick to one mfr., 'cause even common wiring problems drive me nuts

Ran into this using the Fender CS 54 in the neck on my LS-93. i just swapped the black and white on the Fender and had no other problems. The only thing here that is a REAL PITA is the fact that most of the time inthis situation you are working with a front mounted pickguard. That means that you don't know there is a phase issue most times untill you get the guitar back together and strung. On a rear router just pop the cover and swap wires but on a front router---:banghead:!
