Re: SSL52-1b and SSL52-1 RwRp Humbucked?
No experience with the SSL5-2, but I have experience with half of the pickup (APS2) wired in series (all pickups in standard strat positions).
It sounds good, and thick, but it still has some of that frequency cancellation ("quack") of the #2 and 4 position. The sound is inbetween the #2 and #4 positions and a hot humbucker.
If you're looking for a humbucker sound, it's a cheap option, but it won't quite get you there. I will say that if you roll the tone down a tad, and use a no-load volume pot set to 10, two APS single coils will roar (actually, I have APS in the middle and neck with a Twangbanger in the bridge).
