Stag Mag

I have been wanting to try something different. I dont read much on the Stag Mag, does it really get the closest to a true single coil when split(humbucker obviously)? I was thinking maybe Stag in neck and a PATB in the bridge. Would the outputs match pretty close with the PATB2? Or the 1? Thanks all

I have a stag mag in the neck and love it. It is true single coil split and in series it’s a very usable beefy tone. I don’t have experience with the PATBs sorrry.

Well, when split, it *is* a single coil. Like an SSL-1. I would have a hard time knowing it was a Stag Mag in a blind test. I'd think it was a great sounding single coil.

I want to use Stag Mag in the neck too, but doesn't it have too much output for a neck pickup?

Sounds funny, but i wouldn't want a good match volumewise with the Bridge. The Stag Mag has an tremendous mag pull in comparism to a conventional humbucker. It causes severe stratitis to my experience. So i would back it more off the strings than a other humbucker.

The Stag Mag does not have high output. It pretty much is two Strat single coils; but there are differences in the bobbin size and for ex. the polepieces are in contact with plastic and not the actual coil, so it doesn't really correspond to any actual Strat pickup. But it's close.

Sorry to hijack this, but has anyone tried the Stag Mag in parallel in the bridge position?

Why not just get a single coil at that point? You can easily find conversion mounting rings unless your talking about a wood mount guitar.

I think it’s all relative. I personally see the main sound of the stag mag to be the split single coil (Which sounds like an aps-1 imho btw).

In terms of balance for me I have split SC neck slightly lower loudness than HB bridge so the stag mag in series IS high output COMPARED to what I have in the bridge. Does it make sense?

(And I put the stag mag in the neck of a direct mount Charvel because I couldn’t put a SC. The series tone was a nice surprise. )
