staggered aph-1 for user day?

I thought of maybe winding one. I like the tone of the aph-1, but I'd like to stagger it so I can get a hotter split tone.

So I was thinking about 5.2k for the slug coil and 2.8 for the screw coil for about 8k in series.

I also realize this is quite a mismatch and wonder what nasty side effects I might get as a result.

But I've tried the neck 7.6k version and found it too thin, and the bridge 8.2k and found it muddy. So in total resistance I want it in-between.

Nasty side effect you will get = some hum. How much exactly, I don't know. But the larger the mismatch, the larger the hum.

Mostly I was worried about any possible EQ changes.

That's another possibility. I'm sure MJ will be able to tell you if it will work the way you want it to. Have you thought about maybe trying the Alnico 2 Pro Slash wind?

Don't know the specs on the Slash wind. Anyway, I'm looking for one for the neck spot. The 8.2k bridge model is too hot, the 7.6k neck model isn't hot enough.

The Slash version has a staggered winding, which is why I suggested it.
