Staggered height Strat P/Us

The purpose of staggered pole pieces originally was to balance string-to-sting output, right? No one uses a wound G now, so why aren't there modern staggered pole pieces? It seems a bit silly to me to keep the overbearing G just because that's how it was in the 50's. Do flat pole pieces actually give a more "balanced" tone now?

how about flipping the pickup upsidedown? This would result in lower E and A volumes(but you can tilt up the bass side of the pickups anyway...)but the rest of the strings would be pretty tight sounding. This could help relieve mud and headroom issues with the wound strings.

Another thing I'm wondering about is the "vintage" ashtray style tele bridge. I understand the 3 brass saddles if you can intonate them, but the raised lip seems like it would get in the way. Couldn't you compensate for it by adding a bit more mass to the baseplate?
