StagMag as Neck Pickup?

Thanks, yeah that thread seems to barking up the right tree:

Unfortunately those guys never reviewed their results but the idea came up several times.
I have a left over slug coil from a broken no name humbucker that has a 6k winding.
Good enough for a first try so I will order some rods and put it in my Jackson.
It will take some time until they arrive but I'm looking forward using that left over coil.
More experiments might follow.

EDIT:
.187" x .630" rods are the right length?

I see your point.
Guess a Duncan Custom would come close. Are there any other stock humbucker pickups with 43awg and more winds?

The Perpetual Burn sits in between the Custom and the JB. To me it seems more like an underwound JB than an overwound Custpm 5, though, so I think it's likely wound with 44AWG.

The RioGrande Tallboy humbucker is made with a pair of actual 7.2K Vintage Tallboy Strat coils.
Needless to say, they split to genuine singlecoil tone.
I've got a TallBreed hybrid (one Tallboy coil, one Halfbreed coil) bridge humbucker that's super punchy.

AFAIK .187" is the right diameter. Rod mags don't need to protrude through the bottom of the bobbin so I think they can be shorter.
One guy on the PRS forum used .187" x .500" when he tried it on some SE pickups back in 2016.
Those have holes in their baseplate under the slugs; he didn't even have to take the bobbin off to push the slugs out.

He did some other mods at the same time so it's a long post, but an interesting read.
Here's a link.
