Staining a guitar amp

Hello everyone, I want to give my 65 super reverb reissue a new look. I was wondering how could I stain the black leather to give it the look of tweed? Is it a bad idea to stain the leather?
Also, I was looking at http://www.new-foam.com/fabric2.asp, and was wondering if any of you has changed the grill cloth on your amp before?
Any help would be great.

Bad idea. Recover it (time consuming/tough work that takes skill) or buy a new enclosure from Mojo Musical Supply in Tweed. They can make you a perfect and REAL tweed enclosure that will allow you to maintain your black one in it's current condition. That's what I would do if I were bent on changing the look of that amp.
