What type of strings do you guys prefer?

I've recently discovered the power of Stainless Steel strings... im using D'Addario EXLS Stainless Steel Jazz 13-56 and they are LOUD!

Re: Stainless Steel or Nickel?

I like nickel for my Precision Bass with QuarterPounders. I use nickel plated with most of my guitars and stainless with the Steinberger Gu. I am concerned about stainless strings eating up my frets and my fingerboards. Yes, stainless is brighter, but it lacks warmth and doesnt neccessary last longer than other types of strings. They go flat too and get real grimey. Pure nickel strings get the vintage vibe well and nickel plated gets the modern sound. Stainless is just plain bright.

Stainless Steel! GHS Super Steels .011 to .050 custom shop sets and .009 to .052 custom shop set for my 7-stringers.

Re: Stainless Steel or Nickel?

pure nickel sucks. Not enough brightness or cut, too flat and warm.

I'm 180 degrees out of phase. Stainless is too bright , pure nickel is nice & warm.

Different strings for different music (& different guitars). I switched to pure nickels on my Starfire, & it was like switching to alnico II pickups.
