Standard spaced pickup on Strat?

How much tone loss is there in using a standard 50mm spaced pickup in the bridge of a guitar with a vintage style strat tremolo???

It varies. I have a standard-spaced Pearly Gates in my Strat, and the magnets are all under the strings. The E string magnets are off by about 1 or 2 mm on either side. Tonally, I have no problems, as the E strings are just as responsive as all the others. Humbuckers throw off such a big magnetic field it's not really a major issue.

There are so many variations on the Strat bridge though, it's hard to say for certain one way or the other.

Never noticed much difference.

I think pole spacing problems are overrated.

years ago I did an A/B comparison in teh same guitar, and came to the conclusion that the effect isn´t huge, it´s not like the Es weren´t there before, but it is noticable, esp when playing clean.

I've got a standard spaced JB in my Strat, & don't have any problems. I've got the pole screws down flush with the bobbins, & the pickup is not too close to the strings (between an eighth and a quarter of an inch away).

The last bridge pickup that was in my frankenstrat was standard spaced. I say "was" because it doesn't have any in it right now. A DMZ PAF is going in it, standard spaced. Non-issue to me.

IMO the effect isn't noticeable with normal buckers. It IS noticeable with pickups that use magnet polepieces (like traditional singles), which have a tighter magnetic pattern.
