Re: Standard Tone - Hot or not?

I said AC/DC

Outside of them ... I am partial to Sevendust's hard hitting tones

RHPC, best example of strat tone in modern music, and some of the best examples of strat tone period. Not to mention that John Frucante has a playing style so much like Hendrix it's scary. Before I'm flamed for that comment, think of how Hendrix would be playing today, and in today's music (and dont give me the "Hendrix wouldnt play today's music", it's for the theory) and it would probably sound alot like JF.

i dunno man, JF hardly ever uses vibrato.. the gear they use is very similar as well though

Re: Standard Tone - Hot or not?

i voted rchp but angus's otne is pretty darn good too, the rest im either not familiar with or i think suck

Re: Standard Tone - Hot or not?

I voted old school Metallica, because regardless of how scooped their tone sounded or whatever, I still think the tone on Master Of Puppets is monstrous! That opening chord after the classical part in the opening song (Battery) blew me right off my chair! And Kirk's solo tone, no matter what people say, is decent. But I think it's also what he played on the album, not just his tone. But that rhythm tone.... *drools*

David Gilmour has the best tone....

I'm gonna have to give this the nail on the head award. Even though his tone does not sound like everyone else's, taking away the "Standard Tone" aspect.

I'm not fond of almost all the bands on that list-and tonewise- they're all nothing special...

Re: Standard Tone - Hot or not?

AC/DC ... the intro to "Walk All Over You" is their most amazing work, tonewise.

I like old-school Metallica... anything pre-St Anger. The rhythm crunch on Kill em All was great. All their older albums had something unique and great about the sound.

RATM - Morello is just heavy as hell with relatively low gain and single coils.

Re: Standard Tone - Hot or not?

I voted for AC/DC-- but the tones I like are from guys like Blackmore, Hendrix, early Clapton, Brian May, Iommi, and their disciples.

yeah, thats the main difference in their playing, Frusciante is a bit more minimal than Hendrix.

But he's got the groove man... saw them live in Hyde Park, absoultely rocked.
