Can anyone please post STC-2P preamp circuit dimensions ?
Does it fits in a Fender Jazz Mexican (hole is 3x12cm) ?
Thank you

Re: STC-2P dimensions

Welcome to the forum.

If your Fender MIM Jazz Bass has CTS pots and a Switchcraft jack socket, the STC-2P will fit on the control plate without modification. The awkward bit is positioning the 9v battery beneath the Balance pot. (I usually surround it in some of the grey packaging foam that came with the kit.

Re: STC-2P dimensions

Thank you, I'm worried about the preamp board more than the rest.
Does it fit in the hole ? I can't find the size info on the site.

Re: STC-2P dimensions

How generous is the neck position pickup cavity of your bass? Is it cut tightly to the outline of the pickup or is it rectangular and big enough to take a "soapbar" pickup?

The PCB might have to go in edgeways and with the velcro trimmed down by a few mm.

Re: STC-2P dimensions

If you are content with your current pickups and dual volume pots, you might be wiser to buy the STC-2C-BO Blackouts for Bass EQ (dual concentric, stacked pots version) or EMG-BTC.

No, both passive volume and tone control are really bad as they don't work as they should.

Will check, thank you

A-ha. I see that you are left-handed.

The schematic diagram that you followed for your new pickups was right-handed. This might explain why your controls are misbehaving. Any chance of a photograph of your control wiring, please?

I just replaced the previous pickups, same wiring

Re: STC-2P dimensions

Some LH volume controls employ linear taper pots. These should exhibit no directional bias. Some more expensive LH instruments get reverse audio taper pots. I strongly recommend the latter.

Re: STC-2P dimensions

Well, you were right.
The wiring was wrong !
Can't understand why Fender Mexico sells left handed basses with wrong wiring, but now I can really control volume and tone !
Before is was only like on/off switches, both volume and tone !
Just inverted the wiring of the external pins of the potentiometers (all of them)
I first started with only one and looks like the way was right, now all three inverted and it's a hole new world.
Thank you !

Re: STC-2P dimensions

In my experience, most of the best sounds of a passive Jazz Bass can be extracted from clever use of its dual volume controls and good picking hand technique.

If you still fancy a two-band onboard active EQ, our host would prefer that you purchase this. http://www.seymourduncan.com/pickup/blackouts-bass-preamp-2band-concentric

This is slightly more compact. http://www.emgpickups.com/accessories/bass-accessories/bass-eq-active/btccontrol.html

If you are not in the habit of rolling off treble, this can do some interesting things. http://www.emgpickups.com/accessories/bass-accessories/tone-controls/vmc.html

NOTE - When combined with QP single coil pickups, an active EQ system will boost any inherent noise and introduce a background hiss.
