Stealth telecaster

Ive got a HH schecter pt and want to put a stl2 in the bridge. I cant just swap the bridge out for one that takes a regular tele pickup because it is an oddball size and I dont want to use an adaptor ring. Im thinking about:
- mounting the stl2 on an old dimarzio humbucker baseplate
- putting a no holes cover on
- routing out enough space for the tele pickup

Will be the baseplate, cover, and different attachment method make a substantial change to the tone?

Re: Stealth telecaster

Hi
From my experience, the no holes cover will be a noticeable change. But not substantial, as that word means "a lot".
It changes how close the p'up will be to the string no matter what. I would not like it.
I have read that D'iMarzio base plates may sound a little different as the alloy of the baseplate may be a brass mixture; I read this in a recent thread and have no real experience. My sense after reading was that it might be a little darker sounding.
Routing to make a different attachment point should not make any difference. Obviously if it is going to be closer or further away from the saddles then of course that will make a difference, but not the act of routing per se.
General thought on tele p'up - if you are going from an ashtray (classic) p'up holder to no ashtray, you will loose high end, some twang. Now is the time for smarter people than me to chime in, ask use toons, and really nail it for you.
Good luck and cheers!
