Steer me to my new Duncan pickups, please.

I have a Les Paul Studio Lite...wood...? Does have a carved cap of some sort. Its a lighter and thinner than a standard or even a regular studio. It has an Ebony fretboard. And supposedly sounds brighter than a standard. It also has been refinished with a base and clearcoat(so the finish is fairly thick, for how that plays into the equation. Im looking to play hard/heavy rock with some dropped d now and then and Im looking for a sweet mellow growl, not harsh or biting...similar to that of an standard or custom, but with a lot of harmonics. My amp of chioce is a Mesa if that matters. Ill need a neck and a bridge. What do you suggest? Thanks much!

Re: Steer me to my new Duncan pickups, please.

For what you describe, a PG/CC combo or PG C5 combo would work well. The CC will have more mids and softer highs than the C5, but will also have less defined lows.

Well, the guitar is made of Ash, which is brighter, and usually used on Fender guitars. The ebony board also adds into some brightness. You'd want to steer clear of bright pickups, such as the JB. Talk to Jolly ( I dont know how, he dosnt have a computer at the moment) but he gets some of the best hard rock, dropped D sounds I've ever heard comming out of a LP using the Jazz combo.

Sounds like the Custom Custom might be what you're looking for.. it's worked great for me in higher gain applications without being harsh at all.

i think the custom custom might be what you looking for for brigde

and possibly a PG for nekc

Re: Steer me to my new Duncan pickups, please.

Re: Steer me to my new Duncan pickups, please.

Damn, you're right Bones. I was thinking about the Studio lite ash. My bad, totally ignore what I said.

Re: Steer me to my new Duncan pickups, please.

I did not reply before, because I do not know ANYTHING about LP pickups.

Re: Steer me to my new Duncan pickups, please.

Hmmm, how about a PG/59n? Or a PG/PG combo? The C5 reads like it'd also make a good bridge pickup, but I haven't any experience with it. C5/PG maybe.

Re: Steer me to my new Duncan pickups, please.

umm i'd say if you want somehting that of the regular les paul standard/custom, i'd say g with the c5/59 combo. Probaly closest thing your gonna get to it. I haven't tried this combo myself, but everyone raves about it, and i believe i saw this question on the forum before about someone wnating the standard/custom tone. So try tot he c5/59 out and if you dont like it there is always the 21 days refund policy.
